Curriculum Intent
At Wooburn Green Primary School we intend to develop in our children an interest in learning other languages in an enjoyable and stimulating way. We would like to encourage a curiosity and an awareness of cultural differences, for our pupils to become more open and adaptable to new experiences and for them to have the skills and confidence to consider themselves as global citizens who belong in a multicultural and mutually respectful world. We also aim to provide a foundation for learning further languages, through the teaching of oracy skills.
Curriculum Content
We ensure that pupils have the full access to the National Curriculum for Modern Foreign Languages. Please see the National Curriculum Links below:
Curriculum Implementation
Our French curriculum is mapped out to ensure a progression of skills and knowledge. We teach French through a range of topics and focus on the skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and the culture of France. We use the KAPOW curriculum for French. Impact:
Our pupils enjoy learning French, which is evident through high engagement and enthusiasm in lesson observations and pupil voice. Children have an increased awareness of another culture and show they are ready to learn a new language when they move on to secondary school. We believe the children have a secure foundation to work from when they move to Key Stage Three and continue to learn French but that they also have developed the skills and tools needed to learn a new language.
