PE
Curriculum Intent
At Wooburn Green Primary School we recognise that physical fitness is an important component to leading a healthy lifestyle. We aim to provide a high quality physical education curriculum, which inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sports and other physically demanding activities. The opportunities provided allow the children to compete in sport and other activities, which build character and help them to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Curriculum Implementation
Our PE curriculum follows the National Curriculum objectives and is mapped out across school to ensure all children experience a range of different sports. There is a clear skill progression in place to ensure that our pupils improve their physical fitness and sporting skills year on year.
PE is celebrated at Wooburn Green as an important part of school life. We aim to ensure PE has a high profile throughout the school and this is further embedded through the sporting clubs that are offered termly, the whole school sporting events that take place throughout the year and the opportunities for team sports to compete.
Assessment
The children are assessed informally in PE sessions and verbal feedback is given to help the children improve and develop set skills they are working on. At the end of each PE unit, children are also assessed against the planned objectives for the unit.
Impact:
Our carefully planned curriculum ensures that pupils make progress in a range of different sports and pupils leave Key Stage Two well prepared for the next stage of their physical education. Our engagement in local sporting events, as well as internal school led sporting competitions, ensure our pupils access opportunities to participate in competitive sport. Our pupils enjoy their PE lessons and being active.
